The purpose of the Environmental Scan is to examine events that affect the Ontario Service Safety Alliance and its client base. The scan looks at factors that may influence client needs, particularly economic conditions, demographic shifts, technological advances, legislative changes, and trends in health and safety.

In support of product and services initiatives, the OSSA also collaborated with Laurentian University and the University of Toronto on a joint research project on young workers. The report, "Managing the Health & Safety Interests of Young Workers in Small Businesses," has been submitted to the Research Advisory Council of the WSIB.
